Imran Khan, former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman, grapples with a mounting array of legal complexities in the capital city, Islamabad. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has recently added to his challenges by commencing an inquiry into alleged financial mismanagement stemming from a telethon.
NAB has launched a probe into the actions of Imran Khan, the former cricket sensation, over purported financial irregularities linked to telethon proceeds, which reportedly amounted to around Rs4.32 billion. Concerns have arisen due to discrepancies in fund disbursements.
This inquiry originally began with an application submitted to NAB headquarters, seeking a financial misappropriation investigation. Subsequently, the application has evolved into a comprehensive inquiry.
As of now, Imran Khan remains in detention, primarily due to a case centered around the disclosure of state secrets. His detention has been extended by two weeks, postponing his potential release until September 26.
Despite the suspension of a three-year jail term related to the Toshakhana case, the former cricket luminary continues to be incarcerated at Attock Jail. His legal predicaments continue to mount, with a staggering tally of over 150 cases, including charges encompassing blasphemy and terrorism. Last week, his judicial remand in the cipher case was extended until September 13, and it has been further extended, deferring his release to late September.
