‘Ready or Not: Here I Come’ – The Sequel Is Officially Underway With Big Horror Names Joining the Cast

“Ready or not: here I come!” It’s no longer just what kids shout during hide-and-seek — it’s also the official title of the highly anticipated sequel to 2019’s horror-comedy hit Ready or Not. Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, better known as Radio Silence, are back at the helm, with cameras now rolling on Ready or Not: Here I Come in Toronto.

Returning star Samara Weaving will reprise her role as Grace, alongside Freaky star Kathryn Newton. But the big news? Horror royalty is joining the game. I Know What You Did Last Summer’s Sarah Michelle Gellar and The Monkey’s Elijah Wood are headlining the new additions, with Shawn Hatosy, Néstor Carbonell, Kevin Durand, and even legendary director David Cronenberg also entering the fray.

Yes, that David Cronenberg — the mind behind The Fly, Scanners, and Videodrome — is stepping in front of the camera for this twisted sequel. Durand, Newton, and Radio Silence recently teamed up on the underrated vampire flick Abigail, so the reunion energy is strong. Fun fact: Gellar and Durand previously shared the screen in Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed.

Matthew Greenfield, President of Searchlight Pictures, shared his excitement for the sequel, saying:

“We’re beyond excited to make another film with the phenomenal Radio Silence. With Ready or Not: Here I Come, we get to go on another ride with the amazing Samara Weaving, mix in awesome new voices, and bring audiences a fresh take that’s every bit as twisted and fun as the first one. This is for those who’ve been waiting, and those who didn’t see it coming.”

What Was Ready or Not About Again?

In case you missed it, Ready or Not follows Grace, a newlywed who marries into the ultra-wealthy Le Domas family, owners of a board game empire. As part of their eccentric wedding tradition, she draws a game to play — and gets Hide-and-Seek. The twist? This version is deadly. Grace must survive the night while her in-laws attempt to hunt her down and kill her, believing it’s the only way to preserve their family legacy.

The film earned rave reviews, scoring an impressive 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, thanks to its perfect mix of horror, dark humor, and bloody chaos. It also proved to be a box office gem, raking in $57 million globally on a modest $6 million budget.

What’s Next for the Sequel?

The original ended with Grace walking away from a literal family meltdown (you know what we mean if you’ve seen it), so where the sequel goes is anyone’s guess. But with this cast and creative team, it’s bound to be another wild, blood-soaked ride.

The script is written by Ready or Not scribe Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy, and while there’s no release date just yet, horror fans can revisit the original now streaming on Hulu.

Get ready to play again — and this time, it’s going to be even deadlier.
