Just in case it wasn’t obvious, there are major spoilers ahead for “House Of The Dragon” Episode 10 (aka the season finale).
After a thrilling season filled with clever details, breathtaking cinematography and incredible acting, House Of The Dragon has finally come to a dramatic end with Episode 10, titled “The Black Queen”.

There will be more, but don’t expect Season 2 to land anytime soon. Supposedly, it’s likely to arrive in 2024.
And look, I think this meme just about sums up the fandom’s entire emotional state at the moment.

While one of my favourite moments from the episode was when Rhaenyra was given her father’s crown at Dragonstone, the most talked about point came later — bringing about a character death that will no doubt change the course of House Of The Dragon.

I’m, of course, talking about the brutal death of Lucerys Velaryon (nicknamed Luke), who died at the hands of Aemond Targaryen during a showdown involving their dragons, Arrax and Vhagar.

Earlier in the episode, Luke was tasked with flying to Storm’s End to gain Borros Baratheon’s support for Rhaenyra’s claim to the Iron Throne.

Upon landing, he quickly learned that Aemond had already gained House Baratheon’s favour and was now demanding a debt be paid by Luke — an eye for an eye.

Although Borros steps in to avoid any bloodshed under his roof, Aemond mounts Vhagar and chases Luke and Arrax through the storm clouds.

Side note: How horrifying were the visual comparisons between Vhaghar and Arrax? I would be shitting my pants if I was Luke.
While Luke and Aemond both attempted to control their dragons, in the heat of battle a scared Arrax breathed fire towards Vhagar. Ignoring Aemond’s commands, Vhagar grabbed Arrax — and Luke — in her enormous jaws, killing them both.

It was a shocking moment — even to Aemond who, judging by the expression on his face, didn’t actually mean for Lucerys or Arrax to be killed. Or, perhaps, he’s realising what this will mean for the impending war between the Blacks and the Greens.

Understandably, a lot of House Of The Dragon fans were devastated over the death of Lucerys, a sweet, little innocent bean who was just trying to fulfil the task his mother, the queen, had given him.

Some made hilarious memes about Vhagar, others pointed out the hilarity of Aemond attempting to explain his huge fuck up — but the large majority of us (myself included) were just trying to emotionally process how gut-wrenching Luke’s death would be for Rhaenyra.
