The next chapter in James Gunn’s reimagined DC Universe is one step closer to takeoff. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is nearing the end of production, with actor David Krumholtz confirming that he’s wrapped filming on the project. The film, set to soar into theaters on June 26, 2026, marks the second major installment in Gunn’s new DC slate.
Krumholtz, known for his role in Oppenheimer, plays Zor-El, Supergirl’s father. In a recent Instagram post, he shared a pair of behind-the-scenes photos showing his on-set chair labeled with his name and character, along with what appears to be the film’s logo. In the caption, he expressed gratitude to the cast and crew, including Milly Alcock (Supergirl), Emily Beecham (Alura), director Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya), and DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran. The film was shot in London, where much of the team is based.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow draws inspiration from the 2021 comic series of the same name by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. The story follows Kara Zor-El as she journeys through the cosmos seeking justice, joined by Ruthye Marye Knoll, a determined alien girl whose father was slain by the pirate Krem of the Yellow Hills. The film adaptation stars Eve Ridley (3 Body Problem) as Ruthye and Matthias Schoenaerts (The Old Guard) as Krem. Notably, Krypto the Superdog—featured in the comics and rumored to play a role in the upcoming Superman film—may also appear.
In an exciting crossover, Milly Alcock is expected to make a cameo as Supergirl in the Superman movie releasing this summer, offering audiences a preview of her portrayal before her solo outing.
The film will also feature Jason Momoa as the alien bounty hunter Lobo, a character not present in the original comic. The script was penned by Ana Nogueira, who is also attached to write a future Teen Titans film.
First introduced in 1959’s Action Comics #252 by Otto Binder and Al Plastino, Supergirl has previously graced the silver screen in 1984’s Supergirl, starring Helen Slater, and most recently in 2023’s The Flash, where Sasha Calle played an alternate version of the character.
